Space Whale Studios' entry for the Philly Game Jam 2011, Duck It! is a story of a mama duck trying to find her babies and regurgitate rainbow blocks into their mouths.
The game jam was a 45-hour-long development competition, where groups were given a topic ("mothers" was 2011's theme) and tasked with conceiving, designing and developing a game from start to finish before the time limit or the team's sanity is depleted. Duck It! was created by beautiful artists Zachary Brooks and Alan Kordas with badass programmers Kevin Nyman and Jordan Santell, and audio by musical genius Andrew "Zircon" Aversa.
Our first time developing a game in HTML5/JS, we chose to use the ImpactJS platform. We had some hiccups along the way, but ultimately, we were successful in making a speed-platformer with pseudo-randomly generated levels in 45 hours. NOT TOO BAD!
We also won, unimously, the first Philly Game Jam WTF? award, which is, let's be honest, the coolest award ever.
Runs best in Chrome 11 or Firefox 4 -- 45 hours didn't leave much time for browser compatibility and optimization!
